Ante Up For Africa Supports Darfur Peace and Development Women’s Centers

Ante Up For Africa (AUFA) is pleased to share progress reports for two of the projects that its partner and beneficiary, Darfur Peace and Development Organization (DPDO), supports: The Women’s Center in North Darfur and the Gangy High School project.

According to DPDO’s website, “The Darfur Women’s Center is a secure place for women to gather for supportive services and programs. The guiding principle of the Center is equipping Darfuri women with the resources to recover personal strength and develop resources to rebuild productive lives. The Center integrates social, educational and income-generation services by providing the following: A safe environment that encourages peer support in group activities; facilitation of micro-enterprises to ensure continuing income for women supporting households and Training in first aid, literacy, vocational skills – as requested by the women.”

With donations from AUFA, The Women’s Centers have expanded and achieved recent milestones including literacy trainings, with the first 60 women to enter the program scheduled to graduate in April 2010; First Aid Training programs and basic health training along with construction of new facilities scheduled to begin in April 2010 as well.

Additionally, the Gangy High School project is still proceeding well, with a new completion date scheduled for May 2010 and classes for students to begin in June 2010.
